As one of the proud sponsors of the Women in Gaming Africa (WiGAfrica) Women’s Month Event, Initiate International had the privilege of attending an incredible gathering that celebrated the contributions of women within the Gaming Industry. Held in partnership with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, the event was a unique opportunity for women in the industry to connect, learn, and empower one another.
An Inspiring Event for Women in Gaming
This event, hosted in Cape Town, brought together an impressive lineup of female professionals from across the gaming sector, along with female members of the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board and the Western Cape Minister of Finance. The MC for the evening was our very own Managing Director, Lois Bright, who also Founded WiG Africa flanked by Zoe Siwa, CFO from the WCGRB & Gail Odgers from Sportingbet. It was an evening filled with insightful discussions, meaningful connections, and a shared commitment to fostering a more inclusive industry.
Key Highlights: Learning, Networking, and Giving Back
For us at Initiate International, one of the most memorable aspects of the event was our collaboration with the Secret Love Project. This local initiative, which uses art to uplift the community, provided attendees with beautifully designed stickers. These stickers not only served as a fun keepsake but also represented the spirit of unity and support that permeated the event.
The Western Cape Minister of Finance, Minister Deidre Baartman, addressed the audience, offering valuable insights. Her words were a reminder of the progress that has been made and the work that still lies ahead. The event was enriched by several thought-provoking presentations, each focusing on different aspects of wellness and professional development. Janine Horn offered beneficial advice on financial wellness, Dr. Simone Silver’s talk shed light on hormonal health and wellness, and Michelle Michaels delivered powerful messages regarding workplace wellness.
Reflections from an Attendee
As attendees, we left the event feeling inspired and energized. The conversations we had, the stories we heard, and the connections made will undoubtedly shape our approach to supporting and advocating for women within the gaming industry.
The event was a testament to the strength and resilience of women in gaming. It reinforced the importance of creating spaces where women can come together to share experiences, offer support, and drive change within the industry. We’re incredibly proud to have been part of this event and to support initiatives like the Secret Love Project, which align with our values of community and empowerment.
Kudos must go to our Initiate International registration team headed up by Nannekie van der Schyff alongside Nolwazi Nhlapo, Saarah Henry & Megan Sibbald, who were tasked with getting everyone into the event, distributing the heralded goodie bags and ensuring every attendee was entered into the grand prize draw! Initiate International was in good company as sponsors to the event, alongside Evolution, Sportingbet, Hollywoodbets, Ready Play Gaming & Betway!
Much talk was heard about upcoming events in both Johannesburg & Durban and it’s fair to say that the Western Cape has set the bar very high indeed!
