Welcome to The Women Empowerment Initiative: Highlights from SBC Summit

The recent SBC Summit, held in Lisbon, was a gathering of industry leaders, innovators, and game-changers. Among them was our very own Managing Director, Lois Bright, who had the opportunity to talk about her passion project, Women in Gaming Africa. Her talk at the event was during the Welcome to the Women Empowerment Initiative (WE) on the Super Stage at MEO Arena.

The Women Empowerment Initiative (WE)

The Women Empowerment Initiative (WE) was launched to connect, educate, and empower women, fostering a community of strong, inspired leaders ready to make an impact. It took place on the same stage that hosted major figures like Tony Hawk and the inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee. It was important to ensure that the women speaking as part of WE received the same prestigious platform, making a bold statement that women’s voices deserve to be heard alongside the top stars.

The panel, taking to the Super Stage, provided a platform for the inspiring women of the supporting organizations to share their stories and celebrated women’s leadership, strategic expertise, and impact in the traditionally male-dominated Sports Betting and iGaming industries.

Lois spoke alongside, Ana Bárbara Costa Teixeira, Co-founder, AMIG & Carla Dualib, Coordinator, AMIG. Bethan Lloyd, International Committee, GGW.  Ivonne Montealegre, Founder, Women in Gaming – Malta. Kelly Kehn, Co-founder, All-in Diversity Project & Co-founder, SheEOs. Sue Schneider, Co-founder, SheEOs. Celeste Arredondo Mosqueda, VP, ASFEG. Emily Haruko Leeb, Co-Founder & CEO, Saroca & Claire Adamou, VP of Development, Saroca. Maria (Masha) Tsnompilantze, Head of Content Marketing, SBC Events lead & facilitated the panel, and did a fabulous opening speech, met with rapturous applause from the arena!

The Importance of Networking

Networking is important because it helps build valuable relationships, exchange knowledge, and unlock new opportunities for both personal and professional growth. In industries like gaming, where innovation and collaboration drive success, connecting with peers can lead to partnerships, career advancement, and staying ahead of industry trends.

Events like the SBC Summit provide a unique platform for networking by bringing together key players from across the gaming industry. These gatherings create opportunities to engage with like-minded professionals, share insights, and gain access to new ideas and technologies. Networking at such events can open doors to collaborations, mentorship, and future projects. These events are essential for staying competitive and connected in the rapidly evolving gaming landscape.

The SBC Summit was an excellent platform to showcase the strides WiG Africa is making in the gaming sector. For Lois Bright and everyone involved in the Women Empowerment Initiative, the future looks bright. Through the continued empowerment of women, the gaming industry in Africa, and globally, stands to become more innovative, inclusive, and dynamic.  Watch this space, we hear that more news in coming on this very topic and Africa.
