Staying motivated during your job search

When you start job hunting, it’s rarely possible to guess how long it will go on for. As time passes, the rejections mount up and the budgets get tighter, it’s easy to become disheartened. Finding a job can be frustrating and time-consuming, but yet hopefully rewarding! So, for this reason, it’s important to stay motivated and confident that you will find the right job for you. Here are some tips on how to stay motivated during your job search.

Have a plan

Make lists of things you need to do to. If you need to update your CV or create a cover letter, writing these things down will make you feel that little bit more motivated when you’ve completed the task and get to cross it off your list!

Create the right environment for yourself

Make an area in your home where you can run your job search with a phone, computer and everything else you might need. It will help you stay focused on the target. It’s also a good idea to change your environment occasionally to help you stay motivated. You can do so by working from a coffee shop or even an internet café.

Have a reasonable schedule

Being lazy and scrolling through your phone for jobs for only 5 minutes, won’t help you land a new job; and neither will scrolling through job postings for hours on end. In fact, both radical courses of action will do more harm than good. Schedule a couple of days, or an hour each day, to concentrate on your job search. Always give thought to how you will structure your activities.

Visualize your success

Visualizing your success is one of the best ways to boost motivation when job hunting. It is said that the energy that you put into your job search is what you get back. Use positive affirmations and visualisations to secure positive job search results.

Don’t let the progress of your job search run you into the ground. Your dream job could be just around the corner. It is ultimately up to you to stay motivated and positive throughout your job search. Job hunting can also be a very important time for self-development. Use this period to reassess your goals, find out what you really want to do and engross yourself in making yourself the best you can be!
