Initiate International’s regional director Matthew Aylen was invited by Careers 24 to speak about “How to avoid job scams”.
Job scams are common in South Africa and working with a reputable recruitment agency is paramount.
- There is no employment contract
- There is no formal Interview process
- You are asked to pay in order to receive the job
- You are asked to pay money for training or insurance
- You are asked to pay to have your CV altered before the recruitment agency will send it out.
- The company you are meant to work for has no website
What to do if you think you might have encountered a job scam:
- Stop communicating with them
- Never part with money
- Report scammers to the South African police service
- Do not send documents via fax before you had a reasonable conversation
- Don’t start work until you got something in writing
