How to identify a job scam | Initiate International

Initiate International’s regional director Matthew Aylen was invited by Careers 24 to speak about “How to avoid job scams”.
Job scams are common in South Africa and working with a reputable recruitment agency is paramount.

There is no employment contract
There is no formal Interview process
You are asked to pay in order to receive the job
You are asked to pay money for training or insurance
You are asked to pay to have your CV altered before the recruitment agency will send it out.
The company you are meant to work for has no website

What to do if you think you might have encountered a job scam:

Stop communicating with them
Never part with money
Report scammers to the South African police service
Do not send documents via fax before you had a reasonable conversation
Don’t start work until you got something in writing
