3 Things you should always include in your CV

Competition for good employment is always fierce, and ignoring a few simple rules will get you passed over without a second look. Writing your CV seems pretty straightforward on the face of it, but it’s so easy to forget vital pieces of information that could make the difference between you getting invited for an interview or not. Every job seeker knows that a CV should show employment history, but to be truly successful in your job search, make sure you also include these three things on your CV.

Contact information

This may seem obvious, but candidates sometimes forget to include basic information like their email address, or they bury it at the bottom of their CV. Imagine you applied for a job and the recruiter thought you were a perfect fit but had no way of contacting you, so you lost out on the chance to go to an interview! Make sure that you always add your email address and phone number right underneath your name on the CV.

Job description keywords

You’ll want to include (without making it look like you did a lot of copying and pasting) some keywords and phrases from the job posting. Recruiters don’t spend very long reading a CV, so including the phrases that they’re looking for is guaranteed to make you stand out. A lot of recruiters also make use of CV databases and will search CVs based on those keywords in the job description – so make sure your CV has phrases you’d like to be found for on it.

Key Achievements

A CV is pretty much about showing off about yourself and talking about how great you would be at a particular job – but some people are still way too modest! Under each job title and description, include the most important, impressive, and relevant achievements. This could be anything from meeting and surpassing KPIs to successfully launching a campaign and winning an award.

Applying to jobs is stressful, but by making the recruiter’s job easier, and making clear connections between your past experience and the job you’re applying for, you significantly increase your chances of getting an interview.
