Online Tuesday South Africa launched on our shores in early 2016 and has since established itself as the premier digital event in South Africa. With 6 successful events already held in the Mother City, and a new Partner, Zomato, on board; the 7th Event in Cape Town was received with much anticipation from our loyal followers and newbies alike, and for good reason!
OTSA Event #7 “It’s an Augmented World” was to be held at the heralded Shimmy Beach Club venue, with the added bonus of food (thanks, Zomato) making this quite a special closing event for the 2016 calendar! And it didn’t disappoint! If you haven’t been to Shimmy Beach, then do yourself a favour and go take a look; it’s a beach venue at the V&A Waterfront, with unparalleled views into the bay alongside a beach, swimming pool/s, dance floors and various areas to enjoy the best of Cape Town! The Online Tuesday Event was set-up in an intimate room, with a large bar (woohoo, silly season drinking!) and casual seating, meaning this felt even more relaxed than the last events and more fun and friendly too. Food was free flowing, with waiters bringing us delicious little canapes to nibble on before the event had event started as well as Beyers Chocolates treats to satisfy the sweet tooth in us all!
When you registered for the event, you were told to download the Blippar App before the evening, which baffled most people; including me! But it all became clear when the wristbands were issued at the door and you quickly realized the app makes the wristband come to life; taking selfies a la snapchat and making everyone’s wrist into an apple-esque virtual watch! What fun it was watching a roomful of people pointing their phone at their wrist and laughing hysterically (it was a “you had to be there” moment!) Once we had all settled in our seats, Johan Walters from Clicks2Customers Innovation Lab talked us through Augmented Reality with an interactive presentation and Q&A session, which really got the audience talking! Next up were the Lucan Visuals team, Werner Uys and Wian van Bergen who were taking the stage to speak about Virtual Reality, which again, got the audience whipped into a frenzy of questions!
After the speaker element was over, more food was bought out and networking started happening, all with the beautiful backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean! The happy faces around the room was proof in the pudding that it was a fantastic event; and we’re all poised waiting for the calendar of Events, with new venues, topics and food, in store in 2017!
